D1-2 from tecta
When Peter Keler designed the D1 armchair in 1925, he pursued a radical approach: the clarity of the cube was to be transferred to a piece of furniture - and one that was comfortable to boot. Keler designed the Kubus armchair as a prototype at the Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar. It was intended for the ‘red cube’ house from 1923, which was designed by his friend, the architect Farkas Mólnar.
This red residential cube, also known as the red cube, was planned at the Horn in Weimar with large windows and a recessed glass corridor. ‘Long live the new cube: the first cube-shaped house in the world - Kuri!’ proclaimed the Kuri group at the Bauhaus.
The first prototype of the D1 still exists today: covered in red leather, the original can be seen in the Kragstuhl Museum in Lauenförde. After years of intensive collaboration with Tecta, Peter Keler decided to donate his prototype to the collection. Incidentally, a curious detail is visible here: a seam is visible underneath the armrest. A trick, as there was not enough leather for the prototype.
In addition to the 2-seater sofa offered here, an armchair and a 3-seater sofa are also available from the D1 collection.

Tecta is a furniture company based in German Lower Saxony. With the protection and innovative continuation of original Bauhaus models they selected a very prominent field of activity and a very fastidious one. Released by the avant-garde of the 1920s as an risky venture in small-scale production, Tecta managed it exclusively to produce in larger scales today. This has been authorized officially by the Bauhaus archive in Berlin. So Tecta belongs to the leading names when it comes to Bauhaus furniture.
