Enigma 825 from Louis Poulsen
The Enigma 825 was designed by Japanese designer Shoichi Uchiyama in 2005 and expands the application possibilities of the Enigma family as it is also suitable for rooms with high ceilings. It is a larger version of the Enigma 425, based on the design idea of floating shades on extremely thin wires that make the design look transparent and light.
The name enigma stands for ‘mystery’, referring to the fact that the shades appear to hover when viewed illuminated from a distance. The design fitted well with Louis Poulsen´s product philosophy, and was a new interpretation of the multi-shade system - Japanese grace combined with Scandinavian simplicity. In 2018, the original aluminium version is joined by a new, black edition, expanding the design’s decorative possibilities, and creating a serene visual and atmospheric effect as it shapes and channels light.
The fixture emits glare-free, soft, comfortable downward light. The shade design ensures even illumination of the surface. The matt upper surface diffuses the light, while the shiny lower surface ensures optimal reflection.
