Corde Droit from Kvadrat

The Corde Droit is created by long-time Kvadrat collaborator Ronan Bouroullec. "Drawing has always been part of my life, a long time before I became interested in design,” says Ronan. “I have always drawn with different types of tools, from ballpoint in a cafe to a large brush in my studio, drawing, it’s like a constant companion for me.”

Many of Ronan’s drawings take form through the steady repetition of lines, and the Corde Collection evolved from an urge to translate this effect into rug designs. The assembled ropes in the Corde Collection mimic the appearance of hand-drawn lines placed next to each other, creating patterns and surfaces that flow in different directions.

To achieve dynamic colour depth, the rugs feature a combination of tie-dyed yarns. This traditional technique partially dyes the yarn hanks, creating a subtle interplay between dyed and undyed sections as well as an organic colour transition in each yarn. The ropes are meticulously braided from thin New Zealand woollen yarns, ensuring durability and resistance to dirt. An organic cotton core adds weight to the construction, keeping the rug flat. Cotton stitching yarn binds the ropes, resulting in a use surface of 95% New Zealand wool and 5% cotton.

The Corde rugs are sewn by hand in India. The graphic is scaled to the respective rug size. Irregularities are a sign that the rugs are made by hand, and slight differences in colour can also occur.

Regular Care

Regular cleaning is important in order to keep the rug looking its best and to prolong its life. Dust and dirt wear down the rug and also reduce its fire-retardant properties.

Kvadrat rugs are made with care to last. To make sure your rug maintains its vitality and character over a long lifetime, it helps to take good care of it. We recommend vacuum cleaning your rug at least once a week using a vacuum cleaner set to medium power without applying a brush. Always vacuum in the direction of the pile. Please also rotate the rug frequently to prevent wear and fading in the same place. Ideally, the humidity in the room where the rug is located should be around 50%. If humidity falls below 40%, we recommend spraying your rug with water to avoid the yarn to become dry and brittle.

Stain removal

Remove stains immediately. Place a clean, wet cotton cloth and leave it on the stain until it has absorbed it. If needed, dab the stain by working from the edge of the stain inwards. Do not rub to remove the stain.
