German born Designer Mathias Hahn works and lives in London where he established Mathias Hahn Design Studio in 2006.
From his office and workshop facilities the studio covers a diversity of projects in the field of product and furniture design. These are ranging from industrial design, product development and art-direction through to experimental design, one-off production, interiors and exhibitions.
Holding both a degree in Industrial Design which he gained at the University of Essen, Germany and from the Design Products course at the Royal College of Art in London under Ron Arad, Hahn’s process alternates between analytical knowingness and experimental curiosity. His work is characterisedby an intense examination of possible materials and manufacturing processes whilst his human centred approach sees design as a ‘cultural tool’, always aiming to create relevant objects and narratives in the context of our living realities.
Mathias Hahn’s work has been exhibited in a multitude of international exhibitions, is represented in permanent museum collections and has received numerous international awards. His furniture collection KIN recently received the Wallpaper* Design Award 2017, while the new THEIA light was awarded several design prizes just after launching. In 2012 his light JINN was awarded the red dot: Best of the Best while in 2011 he received an IF Award and an Interior Innovation Award for his light LANTERN by Ligne Roset. In 2014 Elle Decoration Germany selected Mathias Hahn as Newcomer of the year, and in 2010 he received the 2010 German Design Award as Newcomer/Finalist.
His client list includes companies and institutions such as Ligne Roset, Marset, Nanimarquina, Zeitraum, Ikea, Kohler, Asplund, Kvadrat, Merck, Wallpaper*, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, Royal College of Art, V&A, Design Museum, among others.
Mathias Hahn is a regular guest lecturer, jury member and guest editor, most recently teaching at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
