3 Fauteuil Grand Confort, Grand Modèle from Cassina
The Bauhaus sofa classic 3 Fauteuil Grand Confort, Grand Modèle (LC3) from the 1920s - a project of the architect and designer Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand - has lost none of its originality and exclusivity today. The cubic sofa - compared to the classic 2 Fauteuil Grand Confort, Petit Modèle LC2 sofa about 40-60cm more wide - with its voluminous cushions and the extensive tubular steel frame is a design icon - often copied, but unmatched in quality and appearance.
Particularly soft and comfortable cushion is the model with down filling, while the polyester filling provides a smooth, durable padding. The steel frame comes either in classic chrome or coloured lacquered, the upholstery in fabric or leather in various grades and colours.
Cassina
Founded by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda in 1927, the company launched industrial design in Italy during the 50’s by taking a completely new approach which saw a shift from handcraftsmanship to serial production. The company was pioneering in the way that it showed a striking inclination for research and innovation, combining technological skill with traditional craftsmanship. For the first time important architects and designers were involved and encouraged to envision new designs to be transformed into projects, a characteristic that still distinguishes the company. Today Cassina continues to represent new ways of living, creating complete and harmonious settings that bring together the best of design for each area of the home.
