The CH45 Rocking Chair was created for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1965 as part of a more extensive series of furniture, carrying the distinct hallmarks of a Hans J. Wegner design. Wegner’s rocking chair displays a careful balance of poise and elegance with a modern Nordic aesthetic.

Known as the ‘Master of the Chair’ with around 500 designs to his name, Hans J. Wegner was fascinated by the rocking chair. Through his meticulous approach to design, stripping it back to the very essence of comfort and functionality, he arrived at this captivating lounge chair for the modern age after years of refinement. Designed in 1965, the CH45 Rocking Chair is part of a larger series designed by Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn, including the CH44 Lounge Chair, the CH46 and CH47 Dining Chairs and the CH53 Stool which are still in production today.

This modern chair carries the elegance of Nordic simplicity referencing the Shaker era, featuring a reclined ladder-back backrest design and envelope woven paper cord seat that echoes through the other designs of the series.

Made from solid FSC™-certified oak, the rocking chair has the perfect proportions for relaxed sitting and easy rocking. All surfaces are carefully finished by hand by experienced carpenters in Funen, Denmark. Available with optional seat cushions and neck cushions.
