CH327 Teak from Carl Hansen
An inviting solid wood dining table, the CH327 can also serve as a beautiful desk or conference table. It is available in two sizes and with extension leaves.
Hans J. Wegner’s CH327 dining table from 1962 is a good example of how creativity combined with excellent craftsmanship can result in a different and exciting design. CH327 is a solid wood dining table with softened edges and rounded legs that become narrower towards the floor.
The wood’s grains follow the length of the tabletop which itself is supported by 3 distinct rails. Underneath each of these, on each side, is a side rail that continues along the length of the table. Between the side rail and the tabletop there is a space, thus giving the impression that the tabletop is floating.
For support, there is two detachable legs at each end which are connected by a cross-stretcher. The legs and stretchers ensure stability of the table transversely while the side rails do the same in the length. The side rails are joined higher at the table legs and more narrow between them in order to increase leg space for seating. CH327 is available today in two lengths: 190 cm for six people and 248 cm for eight people. Both tables can be extended at each end with a 40 cm wide extension plate, increasing the number of seats to 10 and 12.
The elegant CH327 Wegner table is suitable to be used as both a dining table and a meeting table. It can also easily be used as a desk.
Carl Hansen & Son now introduces the dining set CH24 and CH327 in teak with oak details.
Historically, teak was used to make some of the first Wegner chairs in the 1950s-1960s and was loved for its intense colour, but as demands grew higher, the use of the tropical teak stalled, and more Nordic wood types, like oak and beech, grew in popularity.
Teak forestry has changed dramatically in the past 70 years, and today, the sourced teak is FSC-certified (FSC C135991) and originates from responsibly managed forests. Teak is characterized by its high strength, stability, and vibrant colour which elegantly changes from orange to reddish-brown hues during its lifetime.
The black grain of the wood results in a dynamic expression that stays beautiful due to its natural content of oil.
